PROJECT OVERVIEW
Service Type: Fit-Out
Industry Sector: Education
Designed by Award-winning Architects Scott Tallon Walker in conjunction with an international design firm, the NUIG Human Biology Building is an 8,200m2 structure, built by BAM Ireland for NUIG Ireland. This state-of-the-art 5-storey structure brought the Pharmacology & Therapeutics, Anatomy, and Physiology departments of the university under one roof. The building's function is to teach and train medical students, as well as research a whole range of health issues. Castle Group was contracted to carry out the Gyproc partitions and ceilings, for this project. There is a central atrium area of the full height of the building with specialist perforated boarding to the walls and ceilings. The building footprint centered around a radial layout which demanded curved and radius partitions commanding high-quality detailing and finishes. The ceiling system was an SAS metal ceiling with a concealed grid, bespoke in manufacture and constructed to fit into the radial floor plan layout much like a jigsaw throughout the five-story building. This building was constructed in a live Campus environment and the building's detailed complexity demanded coordination and collaboration between Castle Group and all parties to ensure a successful and seamless outcome.
TESTIMONIALS
We are pleased to offer our recommendation for Castle Group, who completed the fit out of the ceilings and partitions on the Human Biology Building which is located on the NUIG Campus. Their performance on the project in terms of Safety, Programme and Quality contributed to the successful delivery of this state-of-the-art research facility.
From the outset, Castle Group demonstrated a detailed understanding of the project and the client programme requirements. The detailed information provided by their technical team during the technical submittal process ensured that all stakeholders had ample time to review, comment and finally approve all elements of their proposals. This allowed materials/systems to be procured early which ensure they were available when needed.
Their commitment to safety was evident in their meticulous planning and execution, resulting in an incident-free work environment that prioritised the well-being of all personnel involved. Castle’s input into our safety behaviour programme was highly valued, this input as well as input from other contractors on site ensured that our incident Frequency rates for the site and indeed the company were greatly reduced.
The quality of work delivered by Castle Group on the Project in collaboration with the BAM Site Team is evident in the completed building. The curved ceilings and expansive atrium finishes were some of the challenges presented to the team at the outset however with the level or expertise and the quality of the tradesmen deployed on the project, Castle Group executed the works to the highest standard which exceeded client expectations.
Furthermore, the coordination and collaboration exhibited by Castle Group was instrumental in the seamless integration of their work within the overall project. Their proactive communication and willingness to engage with all other contractors ensured that all aspects of the project were coordinated, resulting in a very efficient construction process.
